Skateboard Truck Size Guide for the Right Fit

Finding the right truck size for your skateboard deck isn't just about fit—it controls how your board turns, flips, and feels underfoot.

The primary rule is simple: your total truck axle width should match the width of your deck as closely as possible (ideally within $\pm$0.125 inches).

Different brands measure trucks using different parts of the hanger, which gets confusing. Focus on Axle Width when matching to your deck:

2. Anatomy: Axle Width vs. Hanger Width

• Axle Width: The full length from the tip of one threaded axle pin to the tip of the other. This determines where your wheels actually sit relative to the deck edge.

• Hanger Width: The width of the aluminum body between the wheels. Brands often name their sizes after hanger width (e.g., Venture 5.25 = 5.25" hanger), which is why brand charts differ.

3. What Happens If You Go Wider or Narrower?

Decks Over Trucks ("Magic Carpet")

When your trucks are slightly narrower than your deck, your wheels sit tucked underneath.
